So I don't know if anyone else has seen the ads for Downy Simple Pleasures new line of differently scented softeners. Through these, Downy assures the buyer she can "express herself" and her different moods. The website even wants you to "help design their next scent."Now I love freshly laundered clothing, and I like it very much when the apartment and my house smells like clean clothes fresh from the dryer. At the same time, though, I wonder if having strongly scented clothing would potentially conflict or interfere with a perfume I might wear. So do you perfumistas out there have any opinions on scent in your laundry soap or fabric softener? Is it better to go with a scentless laundering and avoid conflicts in scent, or are you more in favor of embracing a multitude of scents in all their incarnations? Thoughts?

I hate scents in my laundry detergent. Hate hate hate hate hate them.
Ahem. I vote against them. :) They conflict with my perfume, and I have yet to really like any laundry scent.
Yeah, that's the way I'm leaning. My husband actually has allergy problems when it comes to scented laundry stuff, so we've been using separate soap for years now. I'm thinking I'm just going to let scentless win out. The only thing I don't know what to do about it fabric softener, which all seems to be scented...
I just went to the laundry room to see what we're using, and it's Seventh Generation Free & Clear fabric softener.
Freakishly, in the US you can _buy it from Amazon_. I'm always amazed what you can get from Amazon. Soon they'll be selling...

I like it when my towels and sheets have a soft smell, but not my clothes.
Although I do have to say that the softeners I use don't leave a smell for long. That's probably why I don't recall my clothes smelling strongly of them...
P.S. You can actually buy milk through Amazon?!
You can! (The milk.) It appears that the first one I saw, a standard plastic gallon of milk, may be some sort of prank by an Amazon seller. (It's at least amused a lot of people, because people are writing poetry in the review area.) But you can buy big, big things of vacuum packed liquid milk.
So Amazon is now like the old Sears catalogue? Next you'll be able to buy a house on there. No, don't tell me.... ;-)
Re: laundry detergents, I just make a note of the ones I've tried which were too strong, and don't buy them again. I now use Ecover, which smells nice but the scent is not long-lasting on clothes, hence no conflict with my perfumes.
