Never turn your back on Mother Earth.

I just want to take a moment to say: to all the mothers and all the not-mothers, all the mothers-to-be and never-want-to-be-mothers and never-gonna-get-to-be mothers, all the adopted mothers and stand-in mothers and grandmothers and single dads and gay dads and foster parents, to all those who love peace and want a better world for the people they love and the people who come after us all, Happy International Mother's Day. This day began as a day meant to galvanize women, to help them find their political and personal power, in order to feed the hungry, heal the sick, mend the fences, and make the world a better place. In short, Mother's Day is meant to be an homage to mothers everywhere and the work they do to save us from ourselves, including Mother Earth.

And in that spirit, Congrats to the Lewis & Clark College Graduating Class of 2011. I wish you all the luck and hope and heart in the world. Good luck and god's speed in your next adventures.

Go pios -- now get out there and fix shit up! Up here on the hill, we can't wait to see what you do next.

I admit I was unfaithful.
Next time I will be more faithful.
Never turn your back on Mother Earth."
